Just like dogs in kennels yearn and pray to be adopted into their “Forever Homes,” so do I as a semi-retired guy. I wish I were joking…

Retirement in the USA takes guts! Not a lot of welcoming communities for the older set…

Hello, retiring folks. This part of life is as crazy as back in the good old days, graduating from college. What am I doing with my life, and how will I end up?

I just turned 67, live in lovely in the summer and hell in the winter, Boston. I have been traveling the world, and figure that at most have about five years to get my permanent (forever home) in place.

I am single and will do this by myself this year!

So Wilmington, NC — a moderate-sized city with 4 beaches, a university, and a historical downtown is on my target list of possible retirement destinations. It is my only target right now.

I’ve booked a plane that leaves this Friday and returns on Tuesday. How bad (or expensive) can it be?
