No, there is a right to life to be balanced with rights of self determination. Problem is the left wants no incumberance at all on abortion. And the far right wants no rights to terminate pregnancy for any reason. Thus, the divide. But there is a huge constituency willing to accept a pragmatic middle ground. Unfortunately this group seems drowned out by the extremes.

I think most of us agree (and the states too) on the necessity of medical abortion to protect the mother and for rape and incest.

But as Hillary's husband once said, "Let's make abortion safe, legal and rare." I know the far left cringes now on that statement and anything remotely limiting abortion under the guise of women's rights. But could we make abortion rarer? Could we all maybe agree that say 3rd trimester abortions should be avoided in all but medical cases?

If you look at a US map, you will see the states most in favor of unfethered abortion rights tend to be coastal and home to largest and most liberal cities. They believe in government support and increased spending. When something goes wrong, the government, not the individual should fix it.

Midwest America and the South have more moderate beliefs. And self independence, responsibility, and community are historical values.

It is easy to look at the US from afar as a place that should have more homogeneity. But it does not. I know, I lived on both coasts, Virginia, and the Midwest. Their values of each all have their pros and cons. Ignoring pragmatism is never going to work. And the far left and far right should frankly be ashamed.

Until we ask questions that focus on pragmatism and get away from rights or morals at any cost, the rhetoric will keep each side tone deaf.

Thanks for your story. Am following.
