I think Jeffrey makes a good point, don't overly dilute the competitive nature of the game. But your point is well taken. This league has been mostly niche. Great players like Sue Bird, et. al. But nationally it has not been popular (cities like Seattle, Las Vegas being the exception. And I'll say it: the perception that basketball doesn't come first: LGBT issues do.
Women's tennis became more popular than men's when it offered the beauty of long rallies when men's decimated into short serve and volley.
The WNBA has to show their spectacular passing and shooting that differs from men's. They have finally found limelight. But if there golden goose gets lost in gender politics and physical hits over jealousy, it goes back to being unwatchable.
Keep it tough but not a daily fist fight and run with the opportunity. And keep the focus on fun not politics. So done with that.
