I guess the lead singer and the band's continued direction is the key. Like David P. mentioned above, Chicago went soft when Terry K. left. Genesis, on the other hand, did pretty well when they changed up. The Doobie Brothers were ruined by addition: i.e. Michael McDonald. Thanks and cheers..
